Kerala’s temples offer a unique experience of ancient architecture during a Travel to Kerala. The Thirunakkara Mahadev temple is a beautiful old temple situated in Kottayam town. The Koothambalam here is one of the best in the state and the temple has also a wealth of paintings on its walls. The main festival of the temple is 'Phalguna Utsavam' which is celebrated during March.
2 kilometers from Kottayam town, situated in Thazhathangadi are two churches dedicated to St. Mary, which were built in 1515 AD and 1579 AD respectively. The Valiapalli is well known for its Persian Cross and Pahalavi inscriptions on it. The Cheriyapalli houses some of the most exquisite murals and paintings, depicting biblical and other themes. Another famous temple that can be included in a Travel to Kerala is the famous Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple, 14 kilometers away from Alappuzha. It has been built in the typical Kerala architectural style. This temple is famous all over India, for Paalpayasam, a sweet milk porridge offered daily in the temple. The main festival of this temple is held in March/ April. The Santhanagopala Krishnaswamy Temple in Ernakulam is one of the oldest temples in India. The original foundation of this temple was laid in 947 BC, according to the inscription found in the temple. |
